In May 2003, 700 Roma refugees from Kosovo – currently in Macedonia - attempted to cross into Greece, but failed. Turned back by riot police they decided to stay on the border to highlight their plight. After 3 months they gave up and returned back to Skopje, Macedonia's capital.
